SUMMARY:The Art of Working While Black: An Art Exhibit of the Black Experience
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in celebration of African Liberation Month for an art exhibit of six local Black Nova Scotian artists. We will journey through these experiences through narrative performances of the local theater group iMOVe\, and be reminded of the resilience through instrumentalists\, and vocal performers. \nThe event is free and everyone is welcome! Locally catered refreshments and free childcare will be provided on site. Cash bar will be open. \n****\nThis event is a collaboration between CUPE and Working While Black. Working While Black is a project of community groups Ujamaa\, Solidarity Halifax and the Kwacha House Cafe.

Doors at 6:30pm\, Concert at 7:00pm\nCost: Pay-What-You-Can\, in support of Phoenix Youth Programs (https://phoenixyouth.ca/) \nMore about the Phoenix Choir:\nThe Phoenix Community Choir is a program that powerfully highlights the impact made when youth\, community members and Phoenix staff join their voices together in song. The choir provides members with new skills\, opportunities to stretch beyond one’s comfort zone and lots of laughter! It is a community of people who love music and believe in social justice. \nSince 2011 the Choir has sung over 200 songs with numerous celebrities\, traveled across Atlantic Canada and Quebec\, and touched the lives of thousands of people through membership and performance. The choir has collaborated with many local stars\, including members of the Rankin family\, Ben Caplan\, Symphony Nova Scotia\, The Once and VOX\, and have become known for high energy performances of songs as diverse as their group.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a table read of Paul David Power’s play in development\, Crippled. Dramaturgy by Robert Chafe.  \nCrippled explores themes of seen and unseen disabilities\, sexuality and loss. It is based on real life experiences from playwright Paul David Power who lives with a disability. \nThe reading will be followed by a community discussion about the representation of person’s with a disability in the Atlantic Region’s theatre scene.
