SUMMARY:Day of Pink ECHO Tour
DESCRIPTION:Echoes of Resistance. Echoes of Recognition. Echoes of Change.\nThis year\, the Day of Pink ECHO Tour travels across Canada\, bringing together powerful storytellers\, poets\, activists\, and community leaders to share the 2SLGBTQIA+ stories that once faced censorship—and still fight for space today. \nFrom courtrooms to bookstores\, family tables to federal law\, queer and trans voices have always resisted silence. This tour honours that resistance\, marking 25 years since two defining moments in Canadian queer history: \n\n\nThe Supreme Court case Little Sisters Bookstore v. Canada \n\n\nThe passing of the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act \n\n\nBut this tour is not just about the past—it’s about the stories still echoing now. Stories that shape who we are and where we go next. \n🎙️ What to Expect\nThe ECHO Tour is an evening of poetry\, conversation\, reflection\, and truth-telling.\nOur speakers will share stories from history and lived experience—stories that would have been censored 25 years ago\, and in many places\, still are. \nThis is not just a show. It’s a call to listen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets are free and open to all. Join us for an unforgettable night of stories\, solidarity\, and shared purpose.

SUMMARY:Disarmament & the Long Walk to Peace
DESCRIPTION:Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace applauds the strong nonviolent resistance students have shown on campuses across Canada in their urgent demands for disarmament and a ceasefire in Gaza.  We want to keep that conversation going and learn from their experiences. \n  \nTogether with Science for Peace\, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom\, Voice of Women for Peace is organizing  ‘ Walking Together for  Peace” that will include 20 national\, local and international participants walking from from Pugwash to Halifax in September.  The walk from Pugwash will focus on nuclear disarmament but the wider topic of social change (decolonization\, demilitarization and decarbonization) are the foundation for peace and justice. \n  \nThis action has  given us the momentum for this event at the Bus Stop Theatre as well as the momentum to discuss various ways of resistance and calling for disarmament. \n  \nGaza\, of course\, provides the urgent backdrop\, as do all the hotspots of military violence and injustice around the globe. We must challenge the ease of spending billions on war toys rather than human protection such as housing\,fair wages\, health care etc.  Youth engagement in this conversation is one of the key drivers for change. Please join us on August 20 at the Bus Stop Theater . \n  \nPanel Speakers  include: \nSara MacCallum President\, King’s College Student Union \nJoud Ghazal President\, Palestinian Student Association at DAL \nOwen Skeen Representative\,SUNSCAD NASCAD Student Union \nAlexina St. Pierre-Farrow \,Canadian Federation of Students NS \nDr. Jill Carr Harris. DESCRIPTION: Life is about dreams. They say\, “sapne dekhne se hi pure hote hain” (Hindi for “dreams come true when you see them”). Back home in India\, I poured my heart into my performances\, but I yearned to create that emotional vibe here\, where we can truly feel the beauty of love\, betrayal\, pain\, and more. \nLast year\, on November 5th at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax\, my dream became reality. Then\, on January 21st\, we shared another unforgettable evening\, made successful by the incredible love and support of Haligonians. I am immensely grateful to everyone who made these nights so special. \nNow\, I humbly invite you to join me for our next poetry night on July 21st\, 2024\, at the Bus Stop Theatre. \nThis isn’t just another night—it’s the one evening I live for. Your presence would make it truly special.  \n Date: July 21\, 2024\n Location: Bus Stop Theatre\, Halifax\n Time: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM\n Entry: Free\n DM me for any queries. \nLet’s come together and make this evening unforgettable. SUMMARY:Graphic Novel Publishing 101 with Sal Sawler
DESCRIPTION:Have a passion for graphic novels and want to learn more about the publishing industry? Join us on May 23rd from 5-7pm! In this workshop\, we will have industry professional Sal Sawler from Emanta/Conundrum Press talk about how to approach graphic novel publishing\, navigating the industry\, offer insight\, advice\, and a Q&A to all attendees. \nThe workshop will take place in The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op’s Community Room (entrance from Maitland Street). Masks are recommended and can be supplied. \nRegistration fee is $10 or free for co-op members. Payment can be made in person or by e-transfer to payments@thebusstoptheatre.org. Please email writerscircle@thebusstoptheatre.org or andre.fenton@live.ca if you have any questions. Their debut picture book\, When the Ocean Came to Town (illustrated by Emma FitzGerald)\, will be published in Fall 2023.  \nSawler is also a graphic novel editor and publicist. They work with Conundrum Press\, a long-established literary graphic novel publisher based in Wolfville\, Nova Scotia. In addition to bringing important stories to a wide international audience\, they are the editor of Emanata\, Conundrum Press’s young adult imprint.   \nEmanata is mandated to produce exceptional graphic novels for a young adult audience. EMANATA graphic novels rely on a seamless blend of words and pictures to tell compelling\, character-driven fiction and non-fiction stories. By focusing on work created by comic artists living in colonial Canada and striving for social equity\, EMANATA seeks to introduce fresh\, strong\, and under-represented voices to the international young adult and graphic novel markets. \nThis workshop is offer as a part of the Bus Stop Theatre Writer’s Circle. The Bus Stop Theatre Writer’s Circle is an open invite writer’s collective that meets monthly to share writing and feedback. It is designed as an affirming\, nurturing space to support the vulnerable practice of sharing new writing. Attend once or come every month – just make sure you sign up in advance because capacity is limited. \nIf you have the means and you want to support the Bus Stop Theatre in offering more programming like this\, we encourage you to buy a membership: https://thebusstoptheatre.org/about/join/ \nThe BST Writer’s Circle is organized by producer Meg Hubley and coordinator Andre Fenton
