The first act will run approximately 45 minutes\, followed by a 15 minute intermission (to reset the stage and refill your drinks)\, and a second act of approximately 45 minutes. \nWHERE?\nAt The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op! \nHOW DOES IT WORK?\nAutobiographical Fiction is an entirely improvised solo show created by the audience (including you)! It explores themes of loss\, trauma\, and the quest for justice. \nWe follow\, among others\, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish\, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi\, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons. \nAncient landscapes bear deep scars\, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation\, expulsions\, imprisonment\, home demolitions\, water deprivation\, and denial of basic human rights. SUMMARY:The Tar Sands Songbook: A Documentary Play by Tanya Kalmanovitch
DESCRIPTION:The Tar Sands Songbook is a documentary play that asks us to reconsider our unseen relationships with oil. Tanya Kalmanovitch knows these relationships all too well. Born in Fort McMurray\, Alberta\, she made her decision to become a musician as a teenager because “it had nothing to do with oil.” The in-progress reading will be accompanied by music by Tanya and Norm Adams. This special event will be followed by a facilitated discussion entitled “Oil: where we go from here and how do we heal”. \nTanya Kalmanovitch is a virtuoso violist\, a teacher\, environmental activist\, writer\, and a Canadian! Tanya will be in Halifax March 2 and 3 for performances\, presented by suddenlyLISTEN. DESCRIPTION:Water protectors are on the front lines at the mighty Shubenacadie River resisting Alton Gas. They are doing crucial work to protect the water for all of us. With winter coming\, they need our support to keep them warm and safe. \nProceeds from this third annual silent auction and performance fundraiser will directly support frontline resistance efforts against the Alton Gas Natural Gas Storage project. \nThe event is being planned on unceded Mi’kmaq Territory by SWAGR (Solidarity With Alton Gas Resistance)\, a Halifax-based group of activists from Council of Canadians\, Ecology Action Centre\, Solidarity Halifax\, and the general community.
