Featuring a diverse array of artists in a wide range of performance and visual art forms\, the StART Festival’s 2017 line-up offers audiences cutting edge artistic experiences by local creators. \nThe StART Festival runs from Saturday March 25th to Sunday March 26th with a special soft launch on Friday\, March 24th in collaboration with SYNC taking place at The Bus Stop Theatre. And will include live performances by the three groups that took part in the program. \nDoors open @ 8:30PM – StArt Festival soft launch reception with special surprise\nScreening & Performances from 9PM-11PM \n* Please note this is a FREE event. Venue is wheelchair accessible and offers gender neutral washrooms. \n \n– StART Festival – Opening Night – Saturday\, March 25th – \n \nCome out for a fun filled evening of African and Caribbean vibes. Our opening night will showcase and celebrate music\, poetry\, dancing and visual arts from local emerging BIPOC artists!\n \n\nDoors open @ 7:30PM\nArtist Talks @ 8PM\nShow starts @ 8:30PM\n\n* Please note this is a PWYC event. SUMMARY:Crippled: Table Read and Community Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a table read of Paul David Power’s play in development\, Crippled. Dramaturgy by Robert Chafe.  \nCrippled explores themes of seen and unseen disabilities\, sexuality and loss. It is based on real life experiences from playwright Paul David Power who lives with a disability. \nThe reading will be followed by a community discussion about the representation of person’s with a disability in the Atlantic Region’s theatre scene. For more information on the project visit http://www.paulpower.ca/crippled \nThe panelists are: \nPaul Power (playwright/actor)\nSébastien Labelle (Executive Director – Bus Stop Theatre/Festival Director – Mayworks Halifax Festival)\nApril Hubbard (Board Vice Chair – Atlantic Fringe Festival)\nLeeAnne Poole (Festival Director – Atlantic Fringe Festival)\nJosh Dunn (performer/comedian)\n\nModerator: Ryan Delehanty\, Assignment Editor – Accessible Media Inc. \n\nThis evening is focused on linking members of both our arts and disabled community to share views about the piece as well as how we can all work together to promote and demand diversity and inclusion on and of stages in the Atlantic Region. \nThe development of Crippled is possible thanks to support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
