SUMMARY:The Art of Working While Black: An Art Exhibit of the Black Experience
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in celebration of African Liberation Month for an art exhibit of six local Black Nova Scotian artists. We will journey through these experiences through narrative performances of the local theater group iMOVe\, and be reminded of the resilience through instrumentalists\, and vocal performers. \nThe event is free and everyone is welcome! Locally catered refreshments and free childcare will be provided on site. Cash bar will be open. \n****\nThis event is a collaboration between CUPE and Working While Black. Working While Black is a project of community groups Ujamaa\, Solidarity Halifax and the Kwacha House Cafe.

DESCRIPTION:What the heck is going to happen?\n8pm\, Tuesday\, March 7\, 2017\nThe Bus Stop Theatre\n2203 Gottingen Street\, Halifax\n$20 or PWYC\, available at the door \n\nFeaturing a special guest whose talents are so numerous\, they can barely be contained in one room! \n\nCory Bowles\nis known well as an actor (Trailer Park Boys); an award winning film director and writer (Black Cop); a  dancer/choreographer (Verve Mwendo); a musician (Hip Club Groove); and an activist and community leader. And    he’s an improviser\, so suddenlyLISTEN has invited Cory to explore any and all of these worlds with two local master  improvisers\, Norman Adams (cello/processing) and D’Arcy  Gray (percussion). The concert will mash together music\, comedy\, spoken word\, and movement all in one night. This  is an evening of virtuosity not to be missed!\n\nAbout suddenlyLISTEN \nsuddenlyLISTEN\, based in Halifax and founded in 2000\, is focused exclusively on exploratory\, improvised chamber  music and creative art events. The choir provides members with new skills\, opportunities to stretch beyond one’s comfort zone and lots of laughter! It is a community of people who love music and believe in social justice. \nSince 2011 the Choir has sung over 200 songs with numerous celebrities\, traveled across Atlantic Canada and Quebec\, and touched the lives of thousands of people through membership and performance. The choir has collaborated with many local stars\, including members of the Rankin family\, Ben Caplan\, Symphony Nova Scotia\, The Once and VOX\, and have become known for high energy performances of songs as diverse as their group.
