SUMMARY:An Evening with Prismatic: Shion Skye Carter\, Dáminí Awóyígà\, Shianne Gould
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of multidisciplinary magic at The Bus Stop Theatre\, the gem of Halifax’s North End. \nThis evening will guide audiences on a journey of auditory and visual exploration in three acts: an art installation by Shianne Gould available before\, during\, and after the performances\, a poetry & dance set by Dáminí Awóyígà\, and a full performance of Residuals (住み・墨) by Shion Skye Carter. \nThere will be an opening song by Jenelle Duval\, acknowledging the land. \n  \nResiduals (住み・墨)\nDrawing on visual\, sonic\, and physical influences from Japanese calligraphy integrated with dynamic choreography\, Shion Skye Carter reinterprets the traditional form through a contemporary lens. Residuals (住み・墨) takes audiences on a personal journey of self-discovery\, where the inner layers of Shion’s identity begin to unfurl. \n  \nDamini and AfroQueens\nDáminí and AfroQueens present a captivating performance combining poetry\, music\, and dance\, featuring renowned spoken word poet Dáminí Awóyígà and talented dancers who will bring the poetry to life through their movements. The visually stunning blend of dance and poetry will take the audience on a journey through history\, rhythm\, and emotion. \n  \nShianne Gould\nMi’kmaq painter Shianne Gould’s style is vivid\, vivacious and stirring. In her craft she explores themes surrounding family\, and relationship to Mother Earth.

SUMMARY:Mehfil ae Shayari
DESCRIPTION: Life is about dreams. They say\, “sapne dekhne se hi pure hote hain” (Hindi for “dreams come true when you see them”). Back home in India\, I poured my heart into my performances\, but I yearned to create that emotional vibe here\, where we can truly feel the beauty of love\, betrayal\, pain\, and more. \nLast year\, on November 5th at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax\, my dream became reality. Then\, on January 21st\, we shared another unforgettable evening\, made successful by the incredible love and support of Haligonians. I am immensely grateful to everyone who made these nights so special. \nNow\, I humbly invite you to join me for our next poetry night on July 21st\, 2024\, at the Bus Stop Theatre. \nThis isn’t just another night—it’s the one evening I live for. Your presence would make it truly special.  \n Date: July 21\, 2024\n Location: Bus Stop Theatre\, Halifax\n Time: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM\n Entry: Free\n DM me for any queries. \nLet’s come together and make this evening unforgettable. See you there!

SUMMARY:Bread & Roses: Can You See Us?
DESCRIPTION:English & French bilingual performance | Performance bilingue anglais-français\n>>Register Here for FREE Childcare\nASL interpretation will be available\n“Bread and Roses: Can you see us?” is an original performance created by visual artist and labour organizer Tricia Robinson Illustration (she/her) and poet and social justice activist Laura Doyle Péan (they/them). This collaborative performance tackles topics of invisibilized labour\, union work\, collective liberation and the importance of solidarity in the face of intersecting social crises.  Building on their decade of community organizing experience within the labour\, racial\, social and climate justice movements\, the two tiohtià:ke/mooniyang (Montréal) based artists attempt to shine light on forms of labour that are too often hidden and devalued. \nLive on stage\, Tricia will create original visual artwork in several mediums as Laura Doyle Péan recites some of their moving poetry  with themes of domestic and care labour\, activism\, unions\, and freedom. The conception of Tricia’s art pieces will be projected onto a  screen\, allowing the audience to witness her creation process live and close up. The projection of her work will serve to honour the  labour and care that goes into creating illustrations\, embroideries and linocuts\, hence putting emphasis on our understanding of art as  labour\, as well as pridefully using mediums that have such a rich history within liberation and activist movements. Unapologetically feminist and pro-worker\, Tricia and Laura\, with care and devotion\, are using this performance as a way to open conversations about  the labour movement and unionism as a whole\, and the importance of recognizing forms of labour that have historically been  undervalued\, criminalized\, and disregarded.
