SUMMARY:Mayworks presents Am I Ovary-Acting?
DESCRIPTION:Am I Ovary-Acting? is a work by LunaSea Theatre about reproductive justice that examines commonly held beliefs about health and medical care for those with ovaries/uteruses/vaginas. Through comedy\, storytelling\, rage and disbelief we explore reproductive health and justice through relevant objects. At Mayworks\, our focus will be the history\, uses and misuses of the speculum. This 50 minute show is part ted-talk\, part conversation\, part storytelling. When it comes to health and reproductive justice the political and social landscape right now is rife with misinformation\, disinformation and half-truths.  We are here to press against that tide with nuanced conversation and evidence-based information in a fun\, curious\, theatrical way. \nCredits:\nCreated and performed by Kathleen Dorian and Ailsa Galbreath \nResearch by Claire Horn

SUMMARY:Mayworks presents Found in Translation/Trouvé dans la traduction
DESCRIPTION:Found in Translation is an interactive performance in which small objects are translated into movement\, drawing\, and poetry through a series of playful transformations. Audience members are invited to join with performers to uncover illuminating potentials in the things that surround us. \nFound in Translation originated as part of Eastern Front Theatre’s Macro Digitals: CONNECTIONS under the guidance of Kat McCormack\, with collaborators Katie Clarke\, Breton Lalama\, Logan Robins\, Gillian Seaward-Boone and Rebecca Wolfe. \nFound in Translation is an interactive performance that transforms small objects into movement\, drawing\, and poetry through a kind of artistic “assembly line.” Six performers take part at a time\, rotating through all of the roles: hosting\, describing\, drawing\, dancing\, typing poems\, and reading them aloud. Crucially\, the “machine” is always activated by audience participation. An audience member begins each round by arranging objects\, and at the end of the cycle\, they receive the poem that was generated and read out specifically for them – an artistic “gift” created through the collective process.

SUMMARY:Kalaa presents Bali aur Shambu
DESCRIPTION:Kalaa presents Bali aur Shambu by Manav Kaul\, a tender\, funny\, deeply human play in Hindi about companionship\, longing\, and friendship. \nRooted in storytelling\, culture\, and connection\, Kalaa—a South Asian Performing Arts Collective based in Halifax—brings to the stage stories that speak across generations and linger long after the curtain falls. Bali aur Shambhu is one such story: quiet\, tender\, and profoundly human. \nSet within the walls of an old-age home\, Bali aur Shambhu unfolds the lives of two elderly men who couldn’t be more different. Bali\, a lively storyteller with an infectious sense of humor\, fills the room with exaggerated tales and laughter—often using them to hide unspoken pain. Shambhu\, calm and contemplative\, faces life with quiet wisdom and acceptance. Their contrasting personalities spark moments of humor and gentle conflict\, but beneath it all lies a shared loneliness neither can face alone. \nBlending warmth\, wit\, and poignant emotion\, Bali aur Shambhu is a moving reflection on aging\, dignity\, friendship\, and the universal human need to be seen and heard. \nA must-watch 90-minute play for Hindi-speaking audiences (13+)\, this production continues Kalaa’s commitment to presenting meaningful\, culturally rooted stories that resonate across ages and communities.

SUMMARY:TNB Presents Heroine by Karen Bassett
DESCRIPTION:At the height of piracy’s Golden Age\, two of history’s most famed female pirates sit awaiting execution for their crimes. \nDisguised as men\, swashbuckler Anne Bonny and privateer-turned-pirate Mary Read looted\, plundered and outfought many of their male counterparts throughout the Caribbean before being captured and sentenced to hang. Clashing sword fights\, brutal wrestling matches and sharp-as-a-blade humour bring these historical figures to the stage to explore what a life well lived truly is. \n“Between hilarity and tragedy\, every moment of Heroine is electrifying. Even without its masterful orchestration of design\, choreography\, and acting\, the words that craft this story are enough to convey the battle of being human — and woman — with painful honesty.” — Nina Legesse \nContent warning: Ages 16+\, Heroine contains adult themes and salty language\, violence and sexual content. Because pirates. They are pirates.

SUMMARY:Pain is a Private Object - Halifax International Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Who is Halifax International Theatre? \nHalifax International Theater was founded on the basis of twenty years of professional experience of its founder Sergei Tsimbalenko with outstanding world-class directors at the famous Moscow Taganka Theatre. The mission of Halifax International Theater is to contribute to the development of theater in Nova Scotia not only in the professional environment\, but also for a multicultural society as a whole.\nHalifax International Theater is a social phenomenon that studies\, first of all\, a person\, finds a common human essence in a multinational society\, and shows this from the standpoint of art\, instilling cultural values in society. \nAbout PAIN IS A PRIVATE OBJECT \nIs suffering a necessary condition of our existence? I am sure an event like that has never truly happened in Halifax before.”\nBen Stone\nCo-artistic Director Zuppa \n“Work with the actors was amazing!”\nTessa Mendel\nArtistic Director Halifax Theater for Young People \n“I thoroughly enjoyed it! You achieved an awful lot.”\nJure Gantar\nAssociate Director\, Productions Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts \n“Congratulations! Beautiful! I like it very much! SUMMARY:A Beginner's Guide to the Night Sky
DESCRIPTION:A Beginner’s Guide to the Night Sky’ introduces us to Léo\, a young nonbinary person\, who invites us into their mother’s observational astronomy class. The effervescent and unabashed Albertine tells us about the stars through music\, metaphor\, and story\, teaching us songs to sing along with her and enthusiastically showing us the universe from her perspective. Inviting the audience to enjoy the night sky\, learn about the universe\, and sing a capella songs together\, this play is an hour-long piece of queer magic that is heartbreaking\, uplifting\, and full of joy. \nStarring Geneviève Steele and Rooks Field-Green\, directed by Garry Williams\, and written by Colleen Arcturus MacIsaac with design by Noella Murphy\, Brenda Chicas-Duran\, and Matthew Downey and stage management by Dan Bray.
