DESCRIPTION:Deep Cuts presents: 2 women present 3 Women in memory of 1 woman – a Shelley Duvall memorial screening of 3 Women by Robert Altman \nJoin curator Lara Lewis and guest co-host Drue Robyn in a tribute screening of Robert Altman’s surreal 1977 classic 3 Women starring Sissy Spacek\, Shelley Duvall\, and at least one other woman. \nSee the film Roger Ebert called “a funny\, satirical\, and sometimes sad study of the community and its people” that turns into “masked sexual horror.” \nShelley Duvall (1949-2024) won the 1977 Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her work in 3 Women. She was perhaps best known for her role in The Shining and Popeye\, but also for her work with Altman\, as well as for producing and presenting television aimed at young audiences later in her career\, especially Faerie Tale Theatre (1982-87). Hounded by the media and theories about her mental health in her later years\, Duvall died of complications from diabetes in July of this year.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of multidisciplinary magic at The Bus Stop Theatre\, the gem of Halifax’s North End. \nThis evening will guide audiences on a journey of auditory and visual exploration in three acts: an art installation by Shianne Gould available before\, during\, and after the performances\, a poetry & dance set by Dáminí Awóyígà\, and a full performance of Residuals (住み・墨) by Shion Skye Carter. \nThere will be an opening song by Jenelle Duval\, acknowledging the land. \n  \nResiduals (住み・墨)\nDrawing on visual\, sonic\, and physical influences from Japanese calligraphy integrated with dynamic choreography\, Shion Skye Carter reinterprets the traditional form through a contemporary lens. Residuals (住み・墨) takes audiences on a personal journey of self-discovery\, where the inner layers of Shion’s identity begin to unfurl. \n  \nDamini and AfroQueens\nDáminí and AfroQueens present a captivating performance combining poetry\, music\, and dance\, featuring renowned spoken word poet Dáminí Awóyígà and talented dancers who will bring the poetry to life through their movements.
