SUMMARY:Sit Down for Stand-up - Extra Show Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:This is an added show after the first show sold out. \nRyan Doucette is an Acadian actor\, mime\, and comedian originally from Clare\, Nova Scotia. He began his career performing with the theatre troup “Les araignées de boui-boui” and presenting mime sketches in a cafe at the Université Sainte-Anne. These sketches later evolved into his first one-man-show Ryan Doucette: Première Ronde\, which brought audiences to their feet throughout Canada\, the United-States\, and France. He then « En plein dans le mille » from RADARTS and « RADARTS — RIDEAU » in 2012 with his second on man show. He has played in clubs all around Canada\, and the USA. He is now on tour with his third show “PUNCH MOI”\, that was inspired by his new tv show “LE SENS DU PUNCH” that is now being broadcast on UNIS.TV \nNormand Pothier has been doing ‘’standup’’ since 2014. He was the winner of the Hubcap Comedy Festival Standup Competition in 2015 and has been touring the Atlantic Provinces. Normand has a signature self-depreciation style where he explores being a teenager in the 2000’s and an ‘’adult’’ now! Normand is from Clare\, Nova Scotia and now resides in Moncton\, NB. \nHughie Batherson\, on a whim\, stepped on a stage for a Juste pour rire (Just For Laughs) amateur competition and walked away the winner despite it being his first time on stage doing stand-up comedy. The next night he performed in front of a sold out crowd of 800 people at the Hubcap Comedy Festival Gala in Moncton\, NB. He was quickly invited to join the `Juste pour rire` comedians for parts of their National Tour and has performed in Ontario\, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He is from North Sydney\, NS.

SUMMARY:BoxWhatBox: Alternative Acting for the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:BoxWhatBox: Alternative acting for the 21st century \nBoxWhatBox is a system of performance creation and actor training devised by Michael Devine\, a Canadian theatre artist who has created and directed productions in more than 20 countries\, at national theatres\, international theatre festivals\, and as site specific installations. In BoxWhatBox actors learn how to organize and use what they already know: the four expressive vocabularies of voice\, verbal and non-verbal\, and of posture and gesture. They learn how to identify and discard what holds them back: habits of mind and body. BoxWhatBox actors perform interculturally: across different cultures and genres\, from established plays to original material. \nThis will be a 4 hour workshop followed by a dinner and discussion.\n$50 per person or $40 for BSTC Members**. Limited space available! \nTo register please email terra.novella.theatre@gmail.com. Please include any food allergies\, etc. and we will be happy to accommodate. \n**We never want price to be the reason you don’t take a workshop. If price is a problem\, please let us know and we would be happy to work something out.

SUMMARY:An Intimate Evening of Jazz Fusion
DESCRIPTION:Hello Halifax! \nSpring is coming! Warm weather is around the corner! \nNew Brunswick’s cutting edge Jazz Fusion trio\, McKinley Morrison & Williams are hitting the road in April for a string of Maritime performances! \nWe would like to invite you to an intimate evening with us at the Bus Stop Theatre. We are very excited to come to Halifax for the second stop on our tour! Friday April 5th\, prepare for 2 sets of music\, bass solos\, guitar wizardry\, and a borderline drum clinic performance! \nDoors at 7:00 pm\nShow at 7:30 pm\nAdvance tickets are $15 and are available at Ticket Halifax! \nhttps://www.tickethalifax.com/events/93082215/an-intimate-evening-of-jazz-fusion \nBorn from creativity and a lust to be free in music\, Josh McKinley (Saint John)\, John Morrison (Saint John) and Darrell Williams (New York) have brought their musical tastes together to form a completely original sound that is sonically comparable to Jazz\, Latin\, World\, Funk & Fusion. This forging of talent and players has opened up a side of music that is exciting and fresh\, mixing sounds of the past with sounds of the present. \nJosh McKinley has been playing guitar since he was 13 years old. It was a passion that he started to take more seriously after finishing school. Since then\, he has played with and founded almost a dozen local groups\, has toured all the Maritime provinces with multiple bands and has toured halfway across Canada several times. Never having taken formal music or guitar lessons\, Josh has adapted over his career to form a natural & original approach to the guitar. He has been recorded on 2 released albums and is no stranger to sitting in with artists/groups in a live setting. Music is Magic\, and while watching Josh play the guitar\, that is what you can expect to feel. \nJohn Morrison has been playing drums professionally for over 20 years. He has toured internationally several times and played to crowds of 75\,000 people. John has studied with a few notable drums teachers including Joe McIntyre & Norman Calp. He toured for 2 years in 2008/2009 with Canadian group the Northern Pikes. In 2008\, he was featured on the cover of Drum etc… Canadian drum magazine and participated in a drum competition in Toronto\, Canada where he won the fastest stroke competition. John is an absolute beast behind the kit and has been compared to drummers like John Bonham and Buddy Rich. \nDarrell Williams may as well have been born with a bass guitar. He has been playing music professionally for over 35 years. Born in New York\, Darrell made his way to Canada in the late 70’s touring North America with a show band. In 1989 he settled down outside Fredericton N.B. and began tearing up the East Coast music scene\, changing the boundaries of how people looked at the bass guitar. Darrell has played with many great artists over the years including Dave Wilcox\, Matt Anderson and Jeff Healey. When Darrell straps his bass on\, something crazy is about to happen and if you don’t watch\, or you might miss it. \nThese three enjoy pleasing audiences with their tasteful and explosive jams. At a McKinley Morrison & Williams show\, you can expect a beautiful\, melodic and groove based musical fusion\, bass solos\, guitar wizardry\, and a borderline drum clinic performance. Get out to see these cats and the magic that they are creating!

SUMMARY:Khari Wendell McCelland 'We Now Recognize'
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 21\n6pm\nThe Bus Stop Theatre \nFollowing the great success of Freedom Singer – which in 2017 and 2018 toured to 15 cities across Canada – Project: Humanity is once again teaming up with JUNO nominated singer-songwriter Khari Wendell McClelland who has created a dazzling new suite of songs in a brand new show WE NOW RECOGNIZE\, a timely concert that explores the power of apologies\, the nature of community and the redemptive potential of music. We Now Recognize will tour 5 Canadian cities in celebration of Black History Month 2019. \nWhat is the value of an apology? What makes an authentic apology? Khari is creating a musical storytelling performance that weaves a path toward deeper and more heartfelt relationships amongst the varied peoples and communities of Canada and – in his distinct way – brings us together around music and questions of justice.

SUMMARY:Spectacle d'humour - Stef Paquette et Michel Thériault

SUMMARY:Contact: Movement & Sound
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 9th\, 8pm\nBus Stop Theatre\n$20 or PWYC \nDancers: Sara Coffin and Julia Carr (Vancouver)\nMusicians: Norm Adams and Brandon Auger \nOpening set by Andrew Jackson (solo trombone) \nThis quartet first performed in Halifax in 2017 at Kinetic Studio. There was an instant fusing of sound and movement that couldn’t ignored! These four are equal improvisers and their performances are free\, connected\, and focused. Sara and Julia are contact improvisers\, experts in the exploration of the body in relationship to others using the fundamentals of sharing weight\, touch\, and movement awareness. It’s really listening through physical awareness. Norm and Brandon have performed and worked together as Strata for 3 years\, and both make musical structures through maximum listening and interweaving of minute melodies and textures.

SUMMARY:Indigenous Rights March
DESCRIPTION:Marching from Dartmouth (at the Bus Terminal) to Halifax via MacDonald Bridge\, with speaking engagement to follow at Bus Stop Theatre.\n—\nThis past month\, the RCMP has openly violated Indigenous rights by enforcing a provincial temporary injunction with their violent raid of the Wet’suwet’en Access Point on Gidumt’en territory. Since then\, Coastal Gas Link has bulldozed Unist’ot’en trap lines and have destroyed infrastructure on Gidumt’en territory\, blatantly violating the terms of even their own permits. \nMeanwhile\, Coastal Gas Link faces unanimous opposition from the hereditary chiefs of Wet’suwet’en Nation. The BC court granted the injunction before the defendants had even presented their arguments against it\, revealing a low bar for violating indigenous rights in favour of corporate agendas. \nAccording to Dr. Karla Tait and Anne Spice\, “The injunction application shows blatant disregard for Anuk Nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en law) which pre-dates Canadian and provincial law\, for the feast system of governance that upholds Anuk Nu’at’en\, and for Aboriginal title. Its enforcement would be illegal under both Canadian law and Anuk Nu’at’en. The dispute over the pipeline is\, at heart\, a struggle over the meaning of Aboriginal title and the rights of Indigenous peoples to determine the use of their unceded\, unsurrendered ancestral territories.” \nThis is an emblematic case because the Wet’suwet’en system of clan and houses with Hereditary Chiefs has already been recognized in the Supreme Court of Canada as “the fundamental premise of both the Gitksan and the Wet’suwet’en peoples.” \nAccording to West Coast Environmental Law\, “more than two decades after the Delgamuukwv decision affirmed Aboriginal title\, the Crown’s continued pattern of making decisions in the absence of Indigenous consent – without resolving the underlying title and governance issues – undermines the constitutional foundations that are meant to define Canada.” \nHere in unceded Mi’kma’ki\, we denounce the disregard for the traditional and intact governance of the Wet’suwet’en people. We stand with the Wet’suwet’en and all traditional people protecting the land and water for future generations.

SUMMARY:The Handmade Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:The Handmade Film Screening is an hour program featuring experimental analogue handmade films. \nDoors and Bar Open at 6:30pm\nScreening begins at 7pm\nAnd YES there will be popcorn!! \nFILMAKERS FEATURED: \nAmanda Dawn Christie\nBecka Barker\nChristopher Spencer-Lowe\nCollaboration\nErin McDonald\nHeather Harkins\nJeff Mann\nJezebel Cain\nKeelin Jack\nLinda Rae Dornan\nTara Wells\nTodd Fraser\nUrsula Handleigh\nYalitsa Riden\nZach Faye \nMORE ABOUT US: \nThe Handmade Analogue Filmmakers Collective is an ad hoc group of practicing\, enthusiastic\, analogue\, handmade filmmakers. We have come together to showcase experimental analogue handmade films while supporting the Atlantic Canadian filmmakers working in this specialized genre. We believe in screening films that challenge cinematic conventions and explore non-narrative forms and alternate methods of working in film. \nThis screening celebrates what filmmakers have been working on! We hope it will serve as a platform for sharing ideas and techniques\, educate our friends about our love for analogue film\, and inspire others to create work. These films were selected by a jury for their emotional response\, creative use of film\, and visual diversity. After the screening\, we would like to invite you to join us join us for discussion with the filmmakers. \nWhat is handmade analogue filmmaking anyway?\nFor this screening we defined handmade filmmaking as anything where the filmmaker’s hand touched the film to create the work – that could mean conventional hand or bucket-processing\, eco-processing\, emulsion making\, scratching\, animating\, painting\, bi-packing\, tinting\, toning\, rayogramming\, or film destructions techniques. Films also needed to originate on film either Super 8mm\, Regular 8mm\, 16mm\, or 35mm but could be finished digitally. \nWe would like to thank our partnership organization AFCOOP and Arts Nova Scotia for their generous support.

SUMMARY:Forward Music & IDOW Present: Bedouine + Jennah Barry in Halifax
DESCRIPTION:Forward Music Group & In the Dead of Winter 2019 present: \nBedouine\nwith special guest Jennah Barry \nSaturday\, January 26\n@ The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op (2203 Gottingen St.) \ndoors 8:30pm // show 9:00pm\n$20 (+ tax/fees) in advance or $25 at the door \n* this show is part of the In the Dead of Winter festival\, for which passes will be honoured – http://www.inthedeadofwinter.com/tickets–passes.html \n* there is no physical version of this ticket and your name will be at the door on the will-call list \nBEDOUINE\nAzniv Korkejian\, who makes music under the moniker Bedouine\, draws on folk and 70s country – compelling influences\, but not necessarily the music that surrounded her early on in life.\nBorn in Aleppo\, Syria\, to Armenian parents\, Korkejian spent her early childhood in Saudi Arabia. After her family won the green-card lottery\, she moved to the U.S. at the age of 10. Paying homage to folks magnets like Nick Drake\, Joni Mitchell\, and Leonard Cohen\, but in her own startlingly unique voice and lush arrangements\, Korkejian’s 2017 debut as Bedouine is “a modern folk masterpiece” (The FADER) from “a future legend” (The New York Times)\, and “one of the most charming albums of the year” (The Guardian). \nJENNAH BARRY\nFrom the South Shore of Nova Scotia\, Jennah Barry is a singer\, songwriter and musician. Loyal\, casually self-deprecating and mostly honest\, the music is juicy pop gossip with a folk back-bone\, produced by Colin Nealis (Andy Shauf\, Aidan Knight). \nhttp://bedouinemusic.com // http://iamjennahbarry.com\nhttp://forwardmusicgroup.com

SUMMARY:Halifax disX - Stories from the deaf and disabled communities
DESCRIPTION:DisabilityX(disX) is an event where you won’t hear the typical media stories of inspiration written by non-disabled journalists. At disX will hear directly from disabled artists\, workers\, advocates and activists\, in a no nonsense setting. Their stories will make you think and possibly challenge the way you look at disability and disabled people. Not about sympathy\, this is about empathy and the power one person has to transform the world around them\, a world not build with their needs in mind.
