SUMMARY:The Mariachi Ghost
DESCRIPTION:Winnipeg-based music sensation\, The Mariachi Ghost\, has been commissioned by the Prismatic Arts Festival to develop a new theatre / music hybrid performance: Rencor Vivo. \nMore information: http://prismaticfestival.com/events/the-mariachi-ghost/ \nFrom driving rhythms and soaring melodies to brooding synths and dreamy vocal breaks\, The Mariachi Ghost is known in Canada and United States for fusing traditional Mexican songs\, progressive rock and a flair for the dramatic\, to ignite the world of their namesake’s tenuous existence. \nIn Rencor Vivo\, The Mariachi Ghost brings to life Juan Rulfo’s novel\, Pedro Paramo in a spectacle of theatre\, music\, dance\, video projection. Inspired by magical realist literature\, Rencor Vivo is a visceral story told using the local lowbrow slang of Rulfo’s homeland. The style is a perfect mix of tradition and modernity. \nThe Mariachi Ghost are coming to Halifax to develop Rencor Vivo. They will perform excerpts from the production and a concert of their unique music. The full production of Rencor Vivo will debut at Prismatic 2018! \nGet Tickets: http://prismatic.tickethalifax.com/events/45841101/rencorvivo-the-mariachi-ghost

SUMMARY:From the Stage to the Page: Graphic Design for Theatre
DESCRIPTION:From the Stage to the Page: Graphic Design for Theatre \nColleen MacIsaac \nFriday September 8\, 10am \nThe Bus Stop Theatre \nOftentimes an audience’s first interaction with a play will be through its poster. How do we as theatre artists make sure that this crucial first point-of-contact is something that represents the play in an appropriate\, intriguing\, and enticing way? Award-winning multi-disciplinary artist Colleen MacIsaac has designed posters for many local companies including Zuppa Theatre Co\, secret theatre\, LunaSea\, 2b theatre company\, DaPoPo\, as well as many of her own productions. She will examine poster creation from the perspective of a director trying to find a common language with a graphic designer\, offering insight on how to approach that relationship in a way that will allow for the director’s vision to clearly resonate in the design. She will also speak to theatre-makers interested in creating their own posters\, providing design tips and secrets for amateur and emerging designers in their own right. \nLength: 4 Hours \nPrice: $20

SUMMARY:Laban Method Movement Analysis (for Actors)
DESCRIPTION:Laban Method Movement Analysis (for Actors) \nwith Kathryn Reeves \nThursday September 7\, 10am \nThe Bus Stop Theatre \nA system of movements to aid actors in getting into a character using their physicality\, asking artists to go through and explore in the 8 different effort actions. Artists need to come with a monologue prepared. It is highly physical\, and highly rewarding. \nLaban Movement Analysis was developed by Rudolf Laban (1879-1958).  Laban was a scientist\, teacher\, artist\, social activist\, visionary\, and a creator.  Combined with Irmgard Bartenieff’s (1890 – 1981) contributions to the Body category\, the LMA work is a living system that continues to evolve. \nThe Effort actions\, or what Laban sometimes described as dynamics\, is a system for understanding the more subtle characteristics about movement with respect to inner intention. The difference between punching someone in anger and reaching for a glass is slight in terms of body organization – both rely on extension of the arm. The attention to the strength of the movement\, the control of the movement and the timing of the movement are very different. \nEffort has four subcategories (Effort factors)\, each of which has two opposite polarities (Effort elements). \nLength: 4 hours \nPrice: $40 \nNOTES: 15 person limit

SUMMARY:The Return
DESCRIPTION:Aug 31 – Sep 10\, 2017 \n\n\nTHE RETURN\nwritten and directed by David Woods\nPresented by Voices Black Theatre Ensemble \nBus Stop Theatre\, 2203 Gottingen St.\, Hfx\n70 mins\nParental guidance- adult language\nAdmission $14 | $12 \nFrom the theatre company that brought us Once: Africville Stories (2015 Fringe Festival Best Drama\, Best Script Awards) and Speaking In Tongues (2016 Fringe Festival Top 5 Hit Award)\, comes The Return a contemporary drama exploring modern ambition\, personality dissolution and the corruption of family relationships. Vicki Flemming\, a beautiful\, wealthy socialite suddenly returns to her family homestead in the fictional\, rural Black community of Coleville\, NS after a decade of absence. Initially her visit appears to be for personal renewal and an attempt to heal the broken relationship with her sister Allee- a born-again Christian and traditionalist\, who remained in the family house to raise a family. However Vicki’s presence soon unearths family secrets and unleashes a series of incidents that destroy the façade of both sisters’ lives. The play ends with ‘a reversal of roles’ as the now unhinged Vicki ‘appropriates’ Allee’s life (including her husband and child) and becomes the head of the house in Coleville\, while Allee leaves her traditional lifestyle to become a socialite. \nCast:\nVicki…………Kyah Sparks\nAllee…………Vanessa Thomas\nAubrey……..Asante Spivey\nSentia……….Na’Vaijan Slawter \nPerformances\nSaturday Sept 2\, 7:00pm\nSunday Sept 3\, 12pm\nMonday Sept 4\, 2:15pm\nTuesday Sept 5\, 5pm\nWednesday Sept 6\, 5:20pm\nThursday Sept 7\, 5:15pm\nSaturday Sept 9\, 8:45pm\nSunday Sept 10\, 1:40pm

SUMMARY:Uncle Podger's Hat
DESCRIPTION:Aug 31 – Sept 10\, 2017 \n\n\nUncle Podger’s Hat \nBy Mike Hirschbach \nHalifax\, NS \n  \nCircus and Theatrics • For All Ages \n$12/$9 \n60 Min \n  \nMike Hirschbach\, a former clown with the Cirque du Soleil\, brings to life the story of his mentor\, his eccentric Uncle Podger. The Daily News gushed that Uncle Podger’s Hat is “a wonderful vehicle for this versatile and charming performer. He juggles\, he plays the musical saw\, he can ride a unicycle. With a rubber face made to bring on laughter\, Hirschbach endears us to Uncle Podger\, a clumsy old man who may not be able to hang a picture without inciting disaster\, but who can balance a peacock feather on his chin or play two flutes at once.”  The Chronicle Herald said\, “Hirschbach has created a sophisticated\, beautifully structured show that combines his skills at juggling\, unicycling and physical comedy with story.
