SUMMARY:Bruce Fummey - Stories of Scotland
DESCRIPTION:Stories of Scotland comes to Nova Scotia\, wrapping Scottish history and comedy into one hilarious and informative package with Bruce Fummey. \nThursday\, May 16th: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/stories-of-scotland-tickets-687542105947 \nFriday\, May 17th: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/stories-of-scotland-tickets-733143149897 \nBruce has spent fifteen years performing stand-up and creating Scottish history-themed shows for festivals around the world. A former teacher\, he has spent the last few years asking YouTube audiences to “Let me tell you a story” in a series of hugely popular videos\, amassing an incredible 200k subscribers for his YouTube channel\, Scotland History Tours. \nFilm and TV roles have followed in the wake of this success and in 2023 he’ll be coming to Halifax to tell stories and jokes in person with a brand-new live show\, Stories of Scotland. SUMMARY:Ocean Kin - A Shadow Show
DESCRIPTION:Ocean Kin is a poetic shadow show contemplating our relationship to body and self inspired by the ecology of the sea otter. Three performers animate plexi-glass puppets\, 3D sculptural props and projected illustrations behind a screen using flashlights and an overhead projector. This mechanically complex and visually rich performance carries a loose narrative through words and an ethereal soundscape created by Halifax musician\, Layia. Inviting the audience to surrender to their inner quiet\, Ocean Kin is an emotive performance that is both aching and hopeful. \nWatch the show teaser here.\n \nAll tickets are pay-what-you-can\, and can be purchased here or at jeighkkoyote.com

SUMMARY:Boylesque presents: Be Kind & Grind
DESCRIPTION:The night began like many others. The troupe had gathered to hatch plans for the next big show in Kristyn’s humble Halifax apartment. The fridge was fully stocked with gay water and Mister O’Mazing’s pockets were busting with pre-rolled joints. Unbeknownst to the crew\, these joints were loaded with intergalactic ganja supplied by our Planet Pride cosmic allies during their last trip through the Milky Way. The troupe was soon giggling with TH-Glee. There was more than one hot box in the apartment and Kristyn needed some fresh air. The troupe was then horrified to discover that the space smoke had reversed the polarity on Kristyn’s VHS cassettes and every one of her movies had been erased. Knowing this would destroy their beloved host\, the crew leapt into action to recreate her favourite films. Will she discover the ruse? How long can the troupe keep it up?\nEarly show 5-7pm; Late show 9-11pm.\nEarly bird tickets ($20) available for the first week of sales. Remaining general admission tickets will be $25.

SUMMARY:Where Olive Trees Weep film screening
DESCRIPTION:This premiere screening is presented by Students for a Liberated Palestine / Al-Zeitoun University\nProceeds from this screening will be donated to the Obeid Family Fundraiser \nWhere Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss\, trauma\, and the quest for justice. \nWe follow\, among others\, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish\, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi\, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons. \nAncient landscapes bear deep scars\, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation\, expulsions\, imprisonment\, home demolitions\, water deprivation\, and denial of basic human rights. Yet\, through the veil of oppression\, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives. \nThis emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty? \nThis screening is supported by Independent Jewish Voices – Halifax\,  The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op and Mayworks Kjipuktuk/Halifax.

DESCRIPTION: Life is about dreams. They say\, “sapne dekhne se hi pure hote hain” (Hindi for “dreams come true when you see them”). Back home in India\, I poured my heart into my performances\, but I yearned to create that emotional vibe here\, where we can truly feel the beauty of love\, betrayal\, pain\, and more. \nLast year\, on November 5th at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax\, my dream became reality. Then\, on January 21st\, we shared another unforgettable evening\, made successful by the incredible love and support of Haligonians. I am immensely grateful to everyone who made these nights so special. \nNow\, I humbly invite you to join me for our next poetry night on July 21st\, 2024\, at the Bus Stop Theatre. \nThis isn’t just another night—it’s the one evening I live for. Your presence would make it truly special.  \n Date: July 21\, 2024\n Location: Bus Stop Theatre\, Halifax\n Time: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM\n Entry: Free\n DM me for any queries. \nLet’s come together and make this evening unforgettable.
