SUMMARY:Atlantic Boylesque presents A Queersmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:Atlantic Boylesque is bringing something fresh\, sexy and groundbreaking to Halifax this holiday season. On December 3rd\, Halifax’s only all male and non-binary burlesque troupe will deliver a unique take on a Christmas classic to two sold out audiences at the Bus Stop Theatre. They have re-written Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol and will be performing the scripted play mixed with burlesque and comedy. Although Halifax has never seen anything of the sort\, producers of the show suggest that the novel was written for this very purpose. “There are so many brief cameos of ghosts and characters that literally sing and dance their way into the story and disappear just as quickly. The re-write wrote itself. With some help from of us.” The new version\, A Queersmas Carol\, will speak to a variety of modern-day issues such as gentrification\, 2SLGBTQ+ rights\, and of course\, sexuality. Organizers of the event hope to leave their audience inspired with a love for community\, a revitalized respect for theatre\, boundless energy for the holiday season\, and most importantly\, very horny. SUMMARY:Atlantic Boylesque presents Eros & Thanatos: A Legendary Revue of Ancient Grease
DESCRIPTION:Love is complicated. In an effort to bring some clarity to this most complex of emotions\, Atlantic Boylesque has done a deep dive into ancient Greek literature. For starters\, we learned that Eros is the primordial winged god of love and sex. One of the first gods\, Eros\, was son to Nyx (goddess of night) and had no father. He was both worshipped by a fertility cult and considered a patron of homosexual love. Like Eros\, Thanatos is also a son of Nyx (goddess of night). While his brother brings love and desire into the world\, Thanatos is the very personification of Death. He carries into the underworld those that have experienced a “gentle death”. \nSigmund Freud believed humans have a life instinct (named “Eros”) and a death drive (named “Thanatos”). While Eros drives us to create life\, Thanatos tempts us to play with danger\, take risks and engage in self-destructive behaviour. \nThis Valentine’s Day weekend (Feb. 11th)\, join Atlantic Boylesque as we explore love\, lust\, laughter\, danger\, desire and doom.
