SUMMARY:ZUPPA presents: How to Live with Dread by Jane Wells
DESCRIPTION:ZUPPA (in association with Farm Arts Collective & The River Clyde Pageant) presents: \nDecompositions by Tannis Kowalchuk \n~and~ \nHow to Live with Dread by Jane Wells \n\nWEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 13th – 7:30pm\n  \nHow to Live with Dread : written and performed by Jane Wells \n60mins – no intermission \nHaving recently lost her brother Ker (co-founder with Megan Stewart of the River Clyde Pageant) Jane Wells grapples in this new work with how to find the way forward in life and in her work without him — so close was their connection as siblings and collaborators. The piece shines a gentle light on grief and one’s identity within\, and after\, loss. \nJane describes How to Live with Dread as “a show about family\, about death\, and about the work of creation… But in a fun way!” \n(With support from the Ontario Arts Council) \nJane Wells grew up in Cascumpeque\, PEI but has spent the past 20 years in Toronto working as a writer\, actor and director. In addition to her professional theatre experience\, Jane has directed many community-based performances\, working primarily with school-age children. Since 2017\, she has been leading drama workshops for children with The River Clyde Pageant in New Glasgow\, PEI\, of which she is the Co-Director.

SUMMARY:Nighthawk Screening
DESCRIPTION:NIGHTHAWK: A long time ago there was a team of scientists fronted by Doctor E.D. Gast (Mattias Dyson) who wanted to achieve power. Their experiments ended up getting their project shut down but not before a dangerous chemical had left the lab. Years later\, Kyle Richmond (Cole Foran) learns of the Project C experiment and enlists the help of his friend James Sanders (Noah James) to help him track down the one responsible for this. Along the way\, Mindy Williams (Lauren Galbraith) finds herself as part of Kyle’s journey which Kyle attempts to stop in fear of her getting hurt. \nIn the beginning\, James and Kyle are a well-oiled machine until James wishes to have a life outside of their team. In response\, Kyle throws himself deeper into his mission to find Doctor Gast and his associates\, unaware of the Fallout he is causing with James and Mindy. However\, a shocking revelation made in the aftermath of a mistake will force an unlikely partnership and lead to Kyle learning the true value of having help in Vanquishing his problems. \nJoin us on November 14 as we screen Nighthawk for the second time ever. What started as an idea for a small skit of someone being trapped in a basement back in 2016 has evolved into something bigger than anybody could have predicted. Not only does Nighthawk highlight the journey that Kyle and James take as friends as they grow\, struggle and learn\, but it also highlights the journey of two directors learning the ins and outs of how to make a film. This is as much of an adventure for us as it was for the characters and we hope you can enjoy celebrating the culmination of said adventure with us. This event is free of charge with a free-will offering being collected at the event.

SUMMARY:Pride vs. Prejudice Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first ever Atlantic Canadian screening of Pride vs. Prejudice: The Delwin Vriend Story! Delwin Vriend\, an Albertan teacher\, was fired from his job specifically because he was gay. This spectacular documentary follows his fight against his own government for basic human rights and dignity\, providing intriguing insight into the dramatic court decisions and judicial behaviour which caused widespread public furor during his legal battles. His eventual victory had widespread social impacts\, not just in Alberta\, or Canada\, but around the globe. By deconstructing the experience of Delwin Vriend and other LGBTQ2S+ Canadians\, this film explores not only an essential step forward for LGBT2QS+ rights in Canada\, but reminds us why continued efforts for human rights are necessary – now more than ever. \nTicket details: Tickets are available by pay-what-you-can donation. Donation will be taken at the door. Although some seats may be available on the night of the screening\, seats are limited and we ask that you confirm your attendance by email at vriendfilmmc@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Following the performance of a play there is often a Q&A\, usually an awkward and revealing ritual.\nThis Q&A follows a play the audience HASN’T seen. The Q&A IS the play. \nThe real audience is invited to ask questions and play their part\, while the answers from the cast and moderator reveal a dysfunctional backstage and a bankrupt theatre company slipping into obsolescence. It’s increasingly absurd and ridiculous\, a selfie for theatre\, a send up of the self-importance\, the masks of listening\, the out-of-control egos\, and the desperate attempt to stay current (and funded). \n  \nCast includes: Joe Cobden\, Mary Fay Coady\, Ella MacDonald\, Paul Rainville & Andrew Shaver \nDate: December 3rd @7:30pm; December 4th @7:30pm \nRunning Time: 50 minutes \nTickets: Free

SUMMARY:Deep Cuts Presents: Night of the Comet 40th Anniversary Screening
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Christmas with Deep Cuts and our special guest host Drue Robyn with a screening of Night of the Comet (the first scene takes place in the Christmas season so it’s officially a Christmas movie). The action-horror-comedy described by Variety as a “successful pastiche of numerous science fiction films\, executed with an entertaining\, tongue-in-cheek flair” is screening for one night only at the Bus Stop Theatre Co-operative. \nSisters Reggie and Sam are seemingly the only survivors of a comet which\, when it passed earth\, all other humans either evaporated or turned into zombies. In this new world\, can they find ever safety? Home? Perhaps even… love? \n“one of the most amusing\, witty\, imaginative\, and thought-provoking films I’ve seen that was made with no budget and is also cheap exploitation” \n“a good-natured\, end-of-the-world B-movie” \n“creates a visually arresting B-picture in neon-primary colors”” \n“Valley Girl culture satire Night of the Comet gets lots of mileage out of its slapstick sci-fi zombie approach”

SUMMARY:An Autobiographical Fiction Christmas Special - presented by the Unnatural Disaster Theatre Company
DESCRIPTION:While the night may be dark\, the  The Bus Stop Theatre will be aglow with laughs\, libations\, and good cheer during this very special Autobiographical Christmas Special featuring Logan Robins & Olivier Blais!  \nWHEN?\nThe doors to the lobby and bar will open half an hour before the show at 7pm\, with the show starting at 7:30pm! The first act will run approximately 45 minutes\, followed by a 15 minute intermission (to reset the stage and refill your drinks)\, and a second act of approximately 45 minutes. \nWHERE?\nAt The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op! \nHOW DOES IT WORK?\nAutobiographical Fiction is an entirely improvised solo show created by the audience (including you)! Before each of the two acts begin the audience will have a chance to fill the stage with a wide array of costumes and props while also filling out sticky notes with festive-themed prompts\, lines\, song recommendations\, and more! This is a chance to be creative\, collaborative\, and a little silly as you unleash your inner playwright/director/set designer/sound designer/costume designer!\n*Audience participation is never mandatory. Your’e safe. We promise… \nSHOULD I BRING ANYTHING?\nAs a matter of fact… Yes (if you’d like to)!! \nWhile we will provide sticky notes and writing utensils (and some festive props/set) we would love you to bring something from home that you would like to donate this holiday season! Wether it be a winter-coat you’ve outgrown or a coffee table that has never quite worked in your living room\, we are accepting donations of any non-perishable item which will be used in the show and then cleaned\, delivered\, and donated by UDTCo. to Out of the Cold Community Association (and other charitable orginizations). \nThat’s right! You can clear some much needed space in the house right before the holidays while contributing to Autobiographical Fiction and a great cause (talk about a win/win/win\, huh?)! \nOur primary goal is to gather items to donate to Out of the Cold  (you can see a list of what they are looking for below).\nIf we collect items that they are not in need of we will donate to either: \nHabitat for Humanity https://www.habitat.org/restores/donate-goods \nByrony House https://bryonyhouse.ca/ways-to-support-us/ \nShelter Nova Scotia https://www.shelternovascotia.com/ \n*If none of the above organizations will take a certain item we will still clean it and bring it to Value Village\n**These are all incredible resources in our city you should look into supporting regardless!! \nIMPROV WORKSHOP\nIf you want a behind the scenes look at how Autobiographical Fiction works and to sharpen up your storytelling skills before Christmas Dinner- make sure to check out UDTCo’s Improv for Storytellers workshop! This workshop will be run by Logan Robins & Olivier Blais at The Bus Stop Theatre from 12pm-4pm on December 21st. The workshop is only $30 and includes admission to the show (which means if you decide to join you can use your ticket price towards it)!   It is the perfect gift for the theatre-lover in your life! All skill-levels welcome! \nYou’ve seen Autobiographical Fiction at the Fringe Festival and you want to try your hand at this wacky format? You’re an improviser looking to add a couple of things to your yes-and toolbelt? You’re an international spy with sensitive military secrets on the run from the government and you need to lay low for a few hours? We got just the thing! \nLogan Robins and Olivier Blais are hosting a special\, one time only workshop at the Bus Stop Theatre dissecting the format for their show. In this workshop\, they will lead you through helpful creative exercises\, discuss the strategies and difficulties of doing a solo improvised show and guide you through performing a small\, shortened version of the show. By the end of this workshop\, you’ll know how our brains work when we sweat on stage: which is great because a workshop ticket also gets you a ticket to the show! What a steal! \nThrough different creative exercises we will explore focus\, connectivity\, world building\, storytelling and more. Because of the limited class size we look forward to meeting each participant where they are at to help them build skills\, confidence\, and to have FUN! \nIf you have any questions or ways in which we can make this experience more accessible to you please send us an email at: unnaturaldisastertheatre@gmail.com ! \nWe can’t wait to see you soon to spread some holiday cheer. \n_________________________________________________ \nOUT OF THE COLD DONATION REQUESTS \nNon food items: \nBus Tickets \nNew Underwear & Socks \nRadios/Clock Radios \nEarphones \nWorking Cell Phones \nCharging Cords \nSingle Bed Size Sheet Sets \nPillowcases \nMedium Weight Blankets \nBath Towels \nPuzzles \nBooks \nWorking Mini-Fridges \nWinter Coats \nBoots and Shoes \nFood items: \nSnacks\nCanned Goods\nBaking Ingredients\nJuice Boxes\nBaked Goods\nFrozen Casseroles \nNew Personal Care Items: \nTweezersRazors\nHair Elastics\nHairbrushes\nShampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash\nDeodorant\nToothbrushes

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Orphan Dreams
DESCRIPTION:One of Bus Stop Theatre’s own writer’s circle members has a new book out. \nCutting through the cacophony of language sure is hard for Elalarn after only speaking Folk her whole life. A princess on the run\, Elalarn must leave her home and everything she’s ever known behind and dive into a new world in search of her heritage. Together with her strange new foster family\, she searches for her origins\, but is it wise to look into her hidden past? \nThe book uses dyslexia friendly font and features just a hint of local flare in the photography used in the cover design. This is the second book in a planned series. \nContinuing from the events in Pauper Princess\, many of Orphan Dreams revisions were workshopped at the Bus Stop Theatre writers’ circle. Originally from Dartmouth\, Georgina now lives in Halifax with her husband\, baby\, and pets. Finding time for writing as a new mother has been difficult\, but thanks to the group’s encouragement and motivation\, she was able to complete her manuscript. \nPlease come out to celebrate the launch of Orphan Dreams at the Bus Stop Theatre on Thursday January 30th. Doors open at 6:30pm.

SUMMARY:"Slovo" House. Unfinished Novel screening
DESCRIPTION:1927. Artists are settled into one building. They are allowed to choose the finest apartments. All the amenities are provided: telephones\, heating\, and even a solarium on the roof. They are being listened to\, but they don’t know it. Eventually\, of the 66 apartments\, only 16 remain inhabited. The other residents are arrested\, executed\, or exiled to camps. \nSounds like the plot of a gripping psychological thriller\, doesn’t it? The only difference is that this really happened – in Kharkiv.\nIn the 1920s\, the city became a hub of Ukrainian culture\, attracting the most talented artists from across the country. And not just artists. Kharkiv wasn’t prepared for such an influx\, leaving many newcomers asking: where will we live? \nOstap Vyshnia\, one of the local writers\, proposed building a house for writers and even petitioned Stalin for funding. Unexpectedly\, he succeeded. The building was designed in the shape of the letter “C” for Slovo (Word; Cyrilic “C” sounds the same way as “S”). Soon\, it became home to luminaries like Les Kurbas\, Mykola Khvyloviy\, Pavlo Tychyna\, Volodymyr Sosiura\, Mike Johansen\, Ostap Vyshnia himself\, and others. \nWithin a few years\, Mykola Khvylovy\, a former communist\, grew disillusioned with the regime and took his own life in his apartment. Eleven other residents of the building were executed in Sandarmokh in 1937. In March 2022\, this building was damaged by a russian shell. \nThe feature film “Slovo” House. Unfinished Novel” tells the story of Ukrainian artists who lived in this building – how they lived\, wrote\, and formed friendships. The film is shot in black and white to better capture the spirit of the time. Despite the seemingly ideal conditions for creativity\, the artists lived under strict constraints\, and those who dared to step beyond them faced punishment. Interestingly\, the film contains a single color scene. Punishment\, however\, didn’t always mean camps or death; sometimes\, it meant coercion to collaborate with evil forces\, as happened with Pavlo Tychyna. \nJoin us for a screening of “Slovo” House. Unfinished Novel in Halifax.\n📅 When: February 1 at 5:00 PM (doors open at 4:40 PM)\n📍 Where: Bus Stop Theatre Co-op\n2203 Gottingen St.\, Halifax\n💸 Price: 20 CAD (Buy on Eventbrite) \nKinotoloka Halifax is a community initiative that brings people together through screenings of Ukrainian films and cultural exchange. Our goal is to spread awareness of Ukrainian cinema and amplify Ukrainian narratives to counter Russian propaganda. If you resonate with our mission\, please share this post\, tell your Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian friends about us\, and invite them to the screening. Let’s remember our history.

SUMMARY:Traasadi
DESCRIPTION:Traasadi – A Story of Love\, Loss\, and Liberation \nKalaa presents Traasadi by renowned playwright Manav Kaul\, the first-ever Hindi play to be staged in Halifax. Directed by Archana Manmohan and performed by Prateek Dhar\, this one-man play dives deep into the emotional journey of a son grappling with his memories of a mother who lived life on her own terms. The word “Traasadi” translates to “tragedy” in Hindi\, perfectly encapsulating the poignant exploration of familial relationships and personal turmoil. \nFalling within the genre of introspective drama\, Traasadi is a compelling narrative that examines universal themes of familial conflict\, identity\, and the lasting impact of choices. With its seamless blend of powerful storytelling and evocative visuals\, this production invites audiences to reflect on the bonds that shape us and the sacrifices that define freedom. \nDon’t miss this groundbreaking performance that brings Indian theatre to the heart of Halifax.
