With roots in the DIY community in Toronto\, Slash Need have performed their industrial electronic dance music in abandoned buildings\, galleries\, skateparks\, legion halls\, raves\, art galleries\, at drag shows and venues across Canada\, the U.S and abroad. Recognised virally as nasty\, filthy perverts; Slash Need aim to intrigue and disgust. \nKayza lives and works in Kjipuktuk (Halifax). Their practice includes painting\, textiles\, sculpture and virtual reality. As a Black/biracial and transgender visual artist\, Kayza’s current work is inspired by narratives of psychological shadows\, often resulting in the invasion of the fantasy world into mundane settings. \nNectar Collective is a queer DJ collective based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax). Through their flagship event\, SLURP\, founders  Aniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiita\, DJ Decision and DJ Dumb Little Bitch have spent the past year bringing together queers of every flavor to shake ass and simmer in the yummiest gay broth Halifax has slurped in a lonnggg time. \nBackxwash is a Rapper/Producer that was born in Lusaka\, Zambia. DESCRIPTION:This premiere screening is presented by Students for a Liberated Palestine / Al-Zeitoun University\nProceeds from this screening will be donated to the Obeid Family Fundraiser \nWhere Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss\, trauma\, and the quest for justice. \nWe follow\, among others\, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish\, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi\, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons. \nAncient landscapes bear deep scars\, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation\, expulsions\, imprisonment\, home demolitions\, water deprivation\, and denial of basic human rights. Yet\, through the veil of oppression\, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives. \nThis emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty? \nThis screening is supported by Independent Jewish Voices – Halifax\,  The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op and Mayworks Kjipuktuk/Halifax.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see two talented artists blend their talents in a captivating performance alongside custom music created and performed by Gozu Mezu (Hitoshi Sugiyama) (Edmonton). \nThe purpose of “Ladder” is to explore important themes of cultural identity\, immigration\, and generational differences through the history and experiences of the Japanese diaspora. Emiko and Miya have been working together in a creative residency in Halifax\, N.S. from April through to June to combine their artistic skills to create a 30 minute performance. SUMMARY:Disarmament & the Long Walk to Peace
DESCRIPTION:Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace applauds the strong nonviolent resistance students have shown on campuses across Canada in their urgent demands for disarmament and a ceasefire in Gaza.  We want to keep that conversation going and learn from their experiences. \n  \nTogether with Science for Peace\, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom\, Voice of Women for Peace is organizing  ‘ Walking Together for  Peace” that will include 20 national\, local and international participants walking from from Pugwash to Halifax in September.  The walk from Pugwash will focus on nuclear disarmament but the wider topic of social change (decolonization\, demilitarization and decarbonization) are the foundation for peace and justice. \n  \nThis action has  given us the momentum for this event at the Bus Stop Theatre as well as the momentum to discuss various ways of resistance and calling for disarmament. \n  \nGaza\, of course\, provides the urgent backdrop\, as do all the hotspots of military violence and injustice around the globe. DESCRIPTION:Deep Cuts presents: 2 women present 3 Women in memory of 1 woman – a Shelley Duvall memorial screening of 3 Women by Robert Altman \nJoin curator Lara Lewis and guest co-host Drue Robyn in a tribute screening of Robert Altman’s surreal 1977 classic 3 Women starring Sissy Spacek\, Shelley Duvall\, and at least one other woman. \nSee the film Roger Ebert called “a funny\, satirical\, and sometimes sad study of the community and its people” that turns into “masked sexual horror.” \nShelley Duvall (1949-2024) won the 1977 Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her work in 3 Women. She was perhaps best known for her role in The Shining and Popeye\, but also for her work with Altman\, as well as for producing and presenting television aimed at young audiences later in her career\, especially Faerie Tale Theatre (1982-87). Hounded by the media and theories about her mental health in her later years\, Duvall died of complications from diabetes in July of this year.
