SUMMARY:Nova Scotia Retro Film Festo: The Corridor
DESCRIPTION:Evan Kelly | Canada | 2010 | 98m \nThis film is screening as part of the second annual Nova Scotia Retro Film Festo\, happening January 29 – February 2\, 2026! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvan Kelly (director\, The Corridor) has been making short films\, television\, documentary projects\, and countless commercials since 1999. Like so many others\, the draw had always been towards feature films. If he were a pony (which he is not)\, The Corridor – essentially – could be described as his one (true) trick. It was a trick that showed at festivals around the world\, and gathered some acclaim and appreciators along the way. \nJosh MacDonald (writer\, The Corridor) is the winner of an AMD/Dell “Next Wave” Award for Best Screenplay from Fantastic Fest in Austin\, TX\, for The Corridor. He is also the writer of the feature comedy-drama Faith\, Fraud & Minimum Wage. Josh’s stage plays #IAmTheCheese (based on Robert Cormier’s YA novel)\, The Mystery Play\, Whereveville and Halo are published by Talonbooks. Josh also teaches screenwriting at NSCAD University. \nCraig Cameron (producer\, The Corridor) is a seasoned filmmaker based in Halifax\, with over two decades of experience in the film and television industry. His extensive experience spans various roles such as a producer\, assistant director\, and production manager on both local and international productions. Craig’s career has been anchored at Chronicle Pictures\, where he has been involved in several notable projects\, including “Terminal Lunch\,” “December 1917” (Gemini nominated)\, and “Touch and Go\,” written by Michael Melski. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTyler Crawley needs his friends’ support more than ever. He plans a weekend with his childhood buddies to reconnect\, to renew the old friendship that seems to have deteriorated over time. The bond between his buddies has cooled over the years\, and their ability to understand each other has diminished. Tyler’s convinced if he spends a few days with them out in the woods\, partying and having fun\, things will go back to the way they were. He’s wrong. There’s something out there\, waiting for them. \n“(A) fantastic thrill ride of horror and science fiction.” – Adrian Halen\, HorrorNews.Net \nWinner: Best Film – Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival\, 2011Winner: Audience Award for Best Canadian Feature Film — Fantasia Fest\, 2011Winner: AMD/Dell “Next Wave” Award for Best Screenplay — Fantastic Fest\, Austin\, TX\, 2011Winner: Best Picture & Best Director — Fantastic Planet\, Australia\, 2012Winner: Best Picture — 2011 Flickers Rhode Island Int’l Film FestivalWinner: Best Independent Film — Dark Bridges Film Festival\, Sask.\, 2011Winner: People’s Choice Award\, Best of 2011 – Canuxploitation.comNominated for Three Awards at the Tulsa Int’l Film Fest\, including Best Picture (Foreign). SUMMARY:Deep Cuts Presents: D.E.B.S.
DESCRIPTION:There is a secret test hidden within the S.A.T. This test does not measure a student’s aptitude in reading\, writing\, and arithmetic\, it measures a student’s innate ability to lie\, cheat\, fight\, and kill. Those who score well are recruited into a secret paramilitary academy. Some call them seductresses\, some call them spies. Fools call them innocent. They call themselves… D.E.B.S. \nAngela Robinson’s sapphic action comedy hits the big screen at the Bus Stop Theatre Co-op just in time for the holiday season. It has nothing to do with Christmas\, but what a wonderful gift to see under your tree regardless!

SUMMARY:Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLIFF)
DESCRIPTION:Mayworks Momentum presents selections from the Canadian Labour International Film Festival.\nThe Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLIFF) is in it’s 17th edition and Mayworks will again present a local satellite screening of short films chosen from this year’s CLIFF selections. \nCLIFF selects films from across the globe that give voice to workers and their struggles for better lives. \nTotal program runtime: 91 minutes \n\nFilm Program:\n\nNola\nby Natalie Remplakowski & Aisha Evelyna (Canada: English) – 10 min \n \nA Black woman working as a sous-chef navigates toxic restaurant culture and her wavering mental health\, until a chance encounter changes her. \n\nYour Own Boss\nby Álvaro Guzmán Bastida (Spain: Spanish) – 18 min \n \nA food delivery worker struggles to juggle his responsibilities as a young father with the impossible demands of an algorithm that pushes him to the limit. \n\nWorking For Freedom\nby Conor Devries (Canada: English) – 11 min \n \nWorking for Freedom is a short documentary that follows an Ottawa-based woman through her experiences of prison labour at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. Author of Solidarity behind bars\, Jordan House\, provides us with an overview of the frameworks that allow these exploitative practices to continue today. \n\nShadow Work\nby Gillian McKercher (Canada: English) – 3 min \n \n\n\nThis short documentary looks at “shadow work”: tasks that are not part of an employee’s official job description\, but are necessary for the organization to function\, and may be unpaid and unseen. \nUnpaid labour\, shadow work\, glue work\, organizational citizenship. Whatever you name it\, organizations benefit from it. \n\n\n\nLimerent Pittsburgh\nby Anne Ciecko (USA: English) – 3 min \n \nA videopoem revisiting the rust belt city is a site of rekindling of memories and mythologies of labour and family. \n\nMotown South\nby Samuel George (USA: English) – 20 min \n \n\n\nThe electric vehicle industry is booming in the American South\, so much so that the region has earned the nickname the “Battery Belt”. \nBut why are producers setting up shop in states such as Georgia\, Alabama and Tennessee? In part\, the trend stems from a historic lack of union representation there. But workers – and labor organizers – have noticed. And they are starting to push back. How this emerging dynamic plays out could transform the future of American industry. \n\n\n\nGhost Workers\nby Lisette Olsthoorn (Netherlands: English) – 26 min \n \n\n\nIn a film set in which their home offices have been recreated\, six European microworkers share experiences with the filmmaker and with each other\, offering an affecting critique on changing labour conditions. \nGhost Workers is a cinematic research project into the people conducting the often hidden labor necessary to make artificial intelligence work. Working from home\, not being recognized as a worker by the platforms that they work for and being misunderstood by family and friends all together creates strong feelings of isolation. Therefore\, the filmmaker invited six workers from across Europe to share their work experiences with her and with each other. Focusing on the theme of isolation and recognition as a ‘real worker\,’ the film engages in a collective conversation about this type of work.

I am sure an event like that has never truly happened in Halifax before.”\nBen Stone\nCo-artistic Director Zuppa \n“Work with the actors was amazing!”\nTessa Mendel\nArtistic Director Halifax Theater for Young People \n“I thoroughly enjoyed it! You achieved an awful lot.”\nJure Gantar\nAssociate Director\, Productions Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts \n“Congratulations! Beautiful! I like it very much! SUMMARY:Day of Pink ECHO Tour
DESCRIPTION:Echoes of Resistance. Echoes of Recognition. Echoes of Change.\nThis year\, the Day of Pink ECHO Tour travels across Canada\, bringing together powerful storytellers\, poets\, activists\, and community leaders to share the 2SLGBTQIA+ stories that once faced censorship—and still fight for space today. \nFrom courtrooms to bookstores\, family tables to federal law\, queer and trans voices have always resisted silence. This tour honours that resistance\, marking 25 years since two defining moments in Canadian queer history: \n\n\nThe Supreme Court case Little Sisters Bookstore v. Canada \n\n\nThe passing of the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act \n\n\nBut this tour is not just about the past—it’s about the stories still echoing now. Stories that shape who we are and where we go next. \n🎙️ What to Expect\nThe ECHO Tour is an evening of poetry\, conversation\, reflection\, and truth-telling.\nOur speakers will share stories from history and lived experience—stories that would have been censored 25 years ago\, and in many places\, still are. \nThis is not just a show. It’s a call to listen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets are free and open to all. Join us for an unforgettable night of stories\, solidarity\, and shared purpose.
