It’s a one-stop-shop for all of your holiday gift giving needs\, or the perfect place to treat yourself to something wonderful.\n \nThis year\, due to Covid-19\, the event itself will be a little bit different. We will be launching the baskets in an online auction on November 25th\, giving folks 10 days to bid\, and ending with a live-streamed auction and winners announcement on December 5th that anyone can participate in from the comfort of their home!\n \nOur annual basket auction was created to celebrate our amazing membership (now member-owners!!)\, and as a fundraiser for the Bus Stop Theatre Co-op. This year\, all funds raised will be going towards our two new pilot programs: the Reconciliation & Reparations Fund and the Sign Language Interpretation Subsidy! The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op is setting up two separate funds to make the rental of our theatre more accessible to Indigenous peoples and to people of African descent\, and also to help support the hiring of sign language interpreters during events hosted at the Bus Stop. DESCRIPTION:Launching a new initiative of the Bus Stop Theatre Co-op!! \nWe will be capturing the live performances of the selected artists and streaming it live on the 25th of September! We will stream on The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op page\, the Artist’s Pages and right here!\nThis allows the artists to still be seen by many eyes\, on many platforms!\nThis allows the artists to have access to the raw and edited content after their show!\n——-\nTHE ARTISTS:\nNat Chantel (NAT CHANTEL)\nThemes of home\, silence; containment and belonging recur in the body of my art. Through subtle movements and repeated actions\, I explore repercussions of contact and it’s relationship to being silenced\, with the intention to give space for connection and healing.\nAs an interdisciplinary artist\, my medium of expression changes\, yet\, the context remains familiar and focused on recalling voice. Trauma from the erasure of body and self\, and the conditions surrounding distortions in identity are addressed to show how communication alters and imprints our sense of self-worth.\n\nhttp://www.natchantel.com\ninstagram.com/nat.chantelle\n————\nERIANA WILLIS\nEriana was born and raised in Dartmouth Nova Scotia\, with strong family roots in North Preston where her love for singing began at the age of 7. Some of her performances include singing the National Anthem and the Black National Anthem (Lift Every Voice) for the Provincial Launch of African Heritage Month 2018\, the RCMP “H” division\, and the Viola Desmond $10 bill launch at the Black Cultural Centre.\nEriana has also played in numerous musical theatre productions including\, “The Wiz” (2016) at the Rebecca Cohn theatre “From Broadway With Love” (2017) in Las Vegas\, Nevada\, and “Descendents a Musical History Lesson” (2017) by Broadway in the H.O.O.D. Canada. Her most recent performances include singing for the Scotia’s Got Talent fundraiser in the summer of 2018. Then this is the workshop for you! \nBUS STOP BASICS (Beginner Level Workshop)\nLearn the basics of how to set up a show at the Bus Stop!\nThis Bus Stop Basics workshop is facilitated by Merritt award-winning technician/designer Matthew Downey and will provide the opportunity for participants to learn about technical theatre. The women are free to play their games of ludicrous invention until tyrannical fantasies go too far. Enclosed in a haunting world of shadows and make-believe\, the show addresses power hierarchies and how the ego of one can be the destruction of many. Grey Gardens meets Looney Tunes in this absurdist fall brought to life with shadow play\, outlandish physical comedy\, and enchantingly grotesque characters. \nA Feebleminded Dictator is an original shadow play created by international trio Erin Johnston (Canada)\, Brittny Rebhuhn (IA) and Kate Tobie (CA). Originally created as their thesis piece at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre\, the trio has continued to develop and tour the piece\, recently working at Mermaid Theatre of Windsor’s Loft Residency program. DESCRIPTION:The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op Trade School \nIn this 4-hour hands-on workshop\, participants will learn introductory sewing skills that are transferable to many applications in theatre. Participants will make a ‘japanese style utility apron’ or a tote bag\, according to their choice. We will also go over tips and tricks for common repairs and maintenance\, embellishments and breakdown. \nBRING YOUR OWN FABRIC: 1.5 meters of 45” wide non-stretch fabric. Suitable fabrics are cotton\, polycotton blend\, denim\, canvas\, twill\, linen. An old curtain will probably work well. SUMMARY:Drum Making Workshop with Brian & Bryson Knockwood
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED\n10 SPACES ONLY! \nBrian and Bryson Knockwood will lead participants through a cultural journey in the making of a traditional hand drum. \nThe workshop will begin with a prayer song and smudging ceremony. White sage will be used to cleans our mind\, body and spirit\, and to ask for good energy and guidance as we begin our drum making journey. \nThroughout the workshop\, participants will receive teachings about the drum\, care for the drum\, and about how we can learn a little bit of life’s teachings while we creating a drum – the heart beat of mother earth. \nParticipants will be using rims made of cedar\, which is one of the 4 sacred medicines\, and whitetail deer hides harvested from last year’s hunt. \nBrian Knockwood proudly hails from Sipken’katik\, a Mi’kmaq community located in the heart of Nova Scotia. He is one of the founding members of the Eastern Eagle Singers and has traveled from coast to coast sharing his culture and music. Brian is also practices the art of traditional hand drum making\, using techniques and teachings that have been passed on to him from his elders. \nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.
