Motion to Fund the Bus Stop Theatre coming back to HRM Council Jan 28

HRM Regional Council will be voting again on Tuesday, January 28th on whether to approve funding toward the purchase of the Bus Stop Theatre building.

Last June, HRM Regional Council voted in favour of a conditional commitment of $250,000 over two years that would assist us in the purchase of the building housing the Bus Stop Theatre and help secure its future. This commitment was conditional on the delivery of additional studies and inspection reports, as well as evidence of funding support from additional partners.

Since then, we have been working toward meeting these conditions and now HRM Regional Council will be examining a new staff report, which this time recommends funding toward the Bus Stop.

This new report will be presented on Tuesday during the next Regional Council meeting.

While city staff are supportive of our project, we’d love to show councilors how much the community still cares and supports us. This funding is critical to our success.

Please join us at city hall on Tuesday morning, January 28th. The meeting begins at 10am, and the motion regarding our funding will likely come shortly after.

If you can’t be in attendance, please consider writing a letter to city council to encourage them to vote in favour of funding the Bus Stop Theatre. Feel free to use the template below:

Subject: Vote once again to support the Bus Stop Theatre

Dear Mr Mayor and Councilors,

I am writing to express support for the Bus Stop Theatre Co-op’s plan to purchase the property currently housing  them. Please vote in favour of confirming HRM’s previous commitment of $250,000 over two years, which will allow  the Bus Stop Theatre Co-op to secure a future for this critical piece of cultural infrastructure.

Best regards,
