Farmers’ Markets: Global Lessons, Local Impact

Come join us at the Bus Stop Theatre for an immersive talk by Justin Cantafio, a 2023 Nuffield Scholar, local food systems advocate, and farmers’ market champion.

Canada’s food system is in crisis—but there’s hope. Drawing from firsthand experiences managing a provincial farmers’ market cooperative and from his experiential learnings from visiting markets across Canada, Mexico, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Italy, and Turkey, Justin will highlight the role farmers’ markets play in building a resilient, sustainable, and just food system.

Farmers’ markets are already revitalizing local economies, empowering small-scale farmers, and making fresh, healthy food more accessible. But their full potential remains untapped. With the right support and policies, these vibrant community spaces can build food sovereignty, regional prosperity, and environmental sustainability.

Join us as we explore how farmers’ markets can be leveraged as powerful tools for change, followed by a discussion period and a social.
