THE FABULIST is a new play about the famed folklorist Helen Creighton. The play traces the midpoint of Dr. Creighton’s long and celebrated life, from the late 1920s when she embarked upon her journey as a collector of songs and stories, to the publication of her classic book “Bluenose Ghosts” in the late 1950s.

THE FABULIST incorporates music and multi-media elements in telling the tale of this determined and fascinating Nova Scotian.

Playwright/Director Rachel Rubin Ladutke has received staged readings, workshops, and productions. Her work appears in numerous monologue and scene anthologies. She curates the virtual reading series “States of Play,” which she started in 2022. She serves on the Board of the Halifax Theatre for Young People, and was awarded a Grant-In-Aid from the Helen Creighton Folklore Society in support of developing this premiere production of THE FABULIST.

Rehearsals will be held over the summer within the Dartmouth/Halifax area (location TBA), 2 to 3 times per week.

There will be 4 performances during the Halifax Fringe Festival (September 3-13). The first show is on September 5th, which was Helen Creighton’s birthday. The performances will take place in Dartmouth and/or central Halifax.

There is no pay for this production, and no fee to participate. All cast and crew will be VOLUNTEER positions. We must utilize non-union performers only.
