Atlantic Boylesque is bringing something fresh, sexy and groundbreaking to Halifax this holiday season. On December 3rd, Halifax’s only all male and non-binary burlesque troupe will deliver a unique take on a Christmas classic to two sold out audiences at the Bus Stop Theatre. They have re-written Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol and will be performing the scripted play mixed with burlesque and comedy. Although Halifax has never seen anything of the sort, producers of the show suggest that the novel was written for this very purpose. “There are so many brief cameos of ghosts and characters that literally sing and dance their way into the story and disappear just as quickly. The re-write wrote itself. With some help from of us.” The new version, A Queersmas Carol, will speak to a variety of modern-day issues such as gentrification, 2SLGBTQ+ rights, and of course, sexuality. Organizers of the event hope to leave their audience inspired with a love for community, a revitalized respect for theatre, boundless energy for the holiday season, and most importantly, very horny.
